At Florida Flight Elite (FFE), we often talk about the "motor": that intangible, high-energy drive that separates the good players from the elite ones. If you want a masterclass in what that looks like in action, you don’t have to look much further than Jeremy Innocent.

Affectionately known as "The Glass Cleaner" during his time in our program and his standout high school career, Jeremy has taken his lunch-pail mentality and high-flying athleticism to the collegiate level. Currently making waves as a 6’8" forward for the Florida SouthWestern (FSW) Buccaneers, Jeremy is proving exactly why the foundations built in youth basketball matter more than ever when you step onto a college court.

The Lake Worth Legend: Building a Double-Double Machine

Before he was a key piece of the FSW rotation, Jeremy Innocent was a household name in Palm Beach County. Playing for Lake Worth Community High School, Jeremy developed a reputation for being a "walking double-double."

During his senior season (2023-24), Jeremy put up numbers that most big men only dream of. He averaged 12 points and 12 rebounds per game, anchoring a Lake Worth team that relied heavily on his presence in the paint. It wasn't just about his size, though. At 6’8", Jeremy has the frame to compete, but what made him special was his timing.

Rebounding is as much a mental game as it is physical. It requires an understanding of trajectory, a willingness to initiate contact, and the "second jump" ability to get back up before the defense can reset. These are the exact skills we emphasize in our elite training programs at Florida Flight Elite. Seeing Jeremy translate those drills into 12-rebound-per-game consistency was a testament to his work ethic.

From FFE to the NJCAA: The Transition

Transitioning from high school to college basketball is notoriously difficult. The speed of the game increases, the players are stronger, and the coaching is more demanding. However, Jeremy’s transition to Florida SouthWestern State College has been remarkably smooth, largely due to his specialized role as a high-motor forward.

As a freshman contributor at FSW, Jeremy has been a model of efficiency. In a league known for its athleticism and physicality, he has managed to maintain a 55.6% field goal percentage. He doesn't force bad shots; he finds his spots, converts around the rim, and creates extra possessions for his team.

His college stats tell a story of a player who knows his identity:

Defensive Presence: Averaging nearly 1 block per game, Jeremy has become a legitimate rim protector for the Buccaneers.

What makes Jeremy Innocent so effective on the boards? It comes down to three pillars that we teach every day at Florida Flight Elite: Positioning, Anticipation, and Pursuit.

1. Positioning (The Box-Out)

Most young players wait for the ball to hit the rim before they move. Jeremy does the opposite. The moment a shot goes up, he is seeking out contact to move his defender. At FSW, where every player is an athlete, you can’t out-jump everyone. You have to out-work them for the spot.

2. Anticipation

The "Glass Cleaner" nickname isn't just about the first rebound; it’s about the third and fourth. Jeremy’s motor is relentless. If he misses a put-back, he’s usually the first one back up to grab his own miss. That kind of energy is infectious and is a major reason why FSW is a consistent contender.
